I study how planetary magnetospheres and upper atmospheres interact, from Earth to Jupiter.
I am a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at The University of Hong Kong and a faculty researcher in the Planetary Space Environment Modeling (PSEM) Group. I am also a member of the Planetary Space Environment Laboratory at the HKU Shenzhen Institute of Research and Innovation. I received my PhD in Geophysics in 2021 from the University of Science and Technology of China, where I conducted my doctoral research in the Ionosphere Lab. I was a research visitor at the High Altitude Observatory, National Center for Atmospheric Research.
My research combines global numerical models, including GAMERA and TIE-GCM, with observations to investigate magnetic reconnection, ionospheric electrodynamics, and magnetosphere–ionosphere coupling at Earth and Jupiter. I have authored over 30 papers, including 14 as first or corresponding author. I have secured RGC GRF and Guangdong NSF funding as PI. I teach three undergraduate courses at HKU. I have organized scientific sessions at AOGS and COSPAR, am a member of the COSPAR ISWAT H4-03 action team, and serve as a reviewer for journals including GRL, JGR, Science China Earth Sciences, and Radio Science.
